The prime purpose of the TODAY function is to get the current date. So, the MS Excel TODAY function returns the current date, which is updated continuously when the worksheet is changed or open. You can't add any arguments with the TODAY function, but you can format the value returned by TODAY as per any standard date format. You can also use the NOW function to get the current date and time.
